IPAF, PASMA and Ladder Association Training in North Wales
In-House Safety Courses
Our In-house safety courses give employees the knowledge and abilities to work safely in accordance with Health and Safety legislation. All courses are half a day duration, and each trainee is provided with a certificate upon completion.
ABRASIVE WHEELS
Designed in accordance with the HSG17 guidance on safety in the use of abrasive wheels. The syllabus includes:
• Hazards and risks arising from the use of abrasive wheels and the precautions to be observed • Methods of marking abrasive wheels with their type, size and maximum operating speed • Storage, handling and transport of abrasive wheels • How to inspect and test abrasive wheels for damage • Functions of all components used with abrasive wheels, such as flanges, blotters, bushes, nuts etc • Assembling abrasive wheels correctly for proper balance and fit • Method for dressing an abrasive wheel • Correct adjustment of the work rest on pedestal or bench grinding machines • Use of suitable personal protective equipment, for example eye protection.

Giving employees the appropriate training in correct manual handling techniques and the use of mechanical lifting aids is highly cost effective. Our manual handling course covers:
• Regulation relating to manual handling • Statistics and injuries related to manual handling • Case studies, types of injuries and how they occur • Risk assessments • Recommended lifting techniques • Appropriate systems of work • Mechanical aids
We aim to tailor this course to the specific tasks each client would be likely to face in their work environment. The course is theory based, with interactive manual handling activities and a brief exam to reaffirm the information covered.
ASBESTOS AWARENESS
Asbestos still kills around 5000 workers each year. Its potential presence within any building built or refurbished before the year 2000 means tradesmen and women remain at risk of exposure. Awareness training is essential to ensuring risk is significantly reduced. Our half day course gives delegates the appropriate information on how to avoid disturbing asbestos as well as:
• Properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of developing lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke • Types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos materials in buildings and plant • General procedures to deal with an emergency, e.g. an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace. • How to avoid the risk of exposure to asbestos.
This course offers theoretical training, interactive exercises and a brief exam to check the knowledge and understanding gained by delegates.
